What is BeautyCon?
BeautyCon stands for Beauty Convention, (originating in the USA) and they held their first UK event in London last weekend, talking about all things beauty, fashion and trending news. Their mission is to bring fans, brands and creators together in one place.
There were many informative talks held with popular YouTubers about their journey and offering tips and advice on the youtube and blogging world. They also held informal, interactive panels, with YouTubers casually chatting with their fans, and even vlogging on stage!
Between the huge pink BeautyCon balloons, photo booths and karaoke space decorated with colourful couches, it was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere with areas for organised ‘meetups’, shopping and have beauty treatments done. -The perfect girly day!
The Liz Earle and Tarte stands really stood out for me. I intended to purchase the Cleanse & Polish, however they were giving away two generous samples in exchange for a tweet and instagram post! NYX had a similar concept, where you get to choose a free gift from a huge selection of eye and lip products. I’ll be posting a haul video on my channel very soon, so keep an eye out for that!
I was thrilled to see Tarte for sale, as we can’t readily buy it here in the UK, (unless you order online from Sephora and risk getting charged extortionate customs fees) and better still, it was on sale for half price for BeautyCon. By the time I arrived, their popular products had sold out, which was a shame, even though that didn’t stop me from covering myself in swatches and buying pretty things that I definitely don’t need!
I met so many of my favourite YouTubers; Lily Pebbles, ViviannaDoesMakeup, Kaushal Beauty, Caroline Hirons, Zoe London, Tyler Oakley, Carli Bybel, Amelia Liana, Niomi Smart, Essie Button and many more! It was so inspiring to meet all these wonderful people, and see that they’re just ‘normal’ people who have made a career out of blogging.
Now, let’s talk about the BLUE lipstick!
I knew this would be the best place to try something daring with my makeup, and as someone who’s always up for taking a risk, I deemed this the perfect time to crack out my OCC Matte Lip Tar in RX. My next task was to plan my outfit around the lipstick. -Am I the only one who does this?
I bought this in Sephora last year, and aside from walking around the house with blue lips and pouting in every mirror I pass, I’d never been gutsy enough to take it out into the real world! I’m not sure what reaction I was expecting, probably just a few weird looks. Instead, I had so many compliments throughout the day, in particular, Zoe and Mandy, who were so lovely and wanted to know specifically what lipstick I was wearing!
Having said all that, I’m not sure I’d wear it again. For a matte lipstick, it didn’t dry and set completely and there was quite a bit of movement. I had blue fingertips and random patches of blue on my face throughout the day, which is something you don’t expect with a matte finish. (Clearly, I touch my lips and face too much). – What are your thoughts on my choice of lip colour?

Would I go back next year? YES!
