You’ve probably seen the hype over the Primark PS Love Lip Liners in the blogosphere recently. I have heard so many great things that I had to go and have a nosey to try them out for myself.
Now, I’m more than happy to shell out for high end lipsticks, but I often feel slightly short changed when it comes to buying lip liners. I do think they are the key to great lipstick application and longevity, but I’m not a fan of forking out as much money on them, especially if I can find similar, affordable shades elsewhere.
I guess I don’t think there’s much that can go wrong in this category. As long as they are slightly creamy so that they don’t drag on application, have good staying power and impart colour well, that’s all I ask for.
I found six shades in my local store a few months ago, and picked up one of each; Nude, Light Pink, Brown, Coral, Red and Wine for a princely sum of £6! The shade names aren’t written on the packaging, but if you’re lucky enough to find the ones with a price sticker, you can find it on there.
If you follow me on Snapchat, or watch my videos, you will see that recently, my most used liner is the brown shade, simply because I live in nude lipsticks and this goes with everything! The quality of this particular shade is up there with the rest of my lip liners; It’s a deep nude, with a slight burgundy tone to it – Perfect for that Kylie Jenner and 90’s vibe that’s currently on trend. My favourite lipstick to pair it with is the Smashbox matte lipstick in Latte.
Red and Wine seem to have a slightly different formula that isn’t as creamy as the Nude and so although they are great for lining the lips, they can drag slightly when filling them in. I often pair them with a liquid lipstick that I know won’t budge, so I don’t think they’re too bad for the price.
Wine is a deep berry shade, which is something I got into a few months ago. It’s probably my second favourite shade, as I don’t have anything similar in my collection. This goes perfectly with the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen. Although I don’t wear red lipstick very often, I love the brightness of the Red, and think it goes really well with the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in 01.
I haven’t used the Nude and Light Pink shades much as they are slightly too cool toned for my skin. However I will be testing them out with various lipsticks when I go back to wearing the lighter pink shades as we transition into the summer months.
The Coral one is my least favourite shade, the formula is very patchy and doesn’t last for very long. I find that it’s quite drying on the lips and the colour is very neon; a bit too bright for me. I had wanted to pair it with MAC Costa Chic; I love the shade of this lipstick but really don’t like the frost formula, so in an attempt to make it bolder, I thought this might work. Unfortunately, they don’t work well together, or separately.
Overall, I am very impressed with this range. The formula may not be consistent for all the shades, but on the whole, the quality is amazing for the price point. Side note – I have just come to the realisation that these are over ten times cheaper than most of my liners, which is crazy!
