This post is in collaboration with The CBD Guide, but all views are my own.
The beauty industry love a new skincare ingredient trend, and they’re often quick to jump on the bandwagon with it. Whether it’s activated charcoal, retinol, vitamin C and now, CBD; the current ‘must-have’ ingredient.
What is CBD?
The term CBD is an acronym for cannabidiol; a natural derivative from the Cannabis plant. For the uninitiated, I know your first question, and No, it won’t get you high. Also, Yes, it is legal.
CBD is extremely popular at the moment because it promises to cure a wide array of ailments. You may be aware that it can be taken orally for ailments such as CBD for anxiety, arthritis and epilepsy, but did you know that you can also apply it topically to the skin?
How CBD in skincare works
Applied topically, CBD for skincare is absorbed through the epidermis, making its way to cannabinoid receptors in nearby skin cells. It’s worth noting that the CBD won’t hit your bloodstream, and so it won’t make a difference to your anxiety, arthritis or other ailments.
There are currently no known side effects from both ingesting and applying it topically. However, advocates are shouting about CBD skincare benefits from the rooftops, stating that it can help with all manner of skin conditions.

Benefits of CBD in Skincare
Hailed as a ‘miracle cure’ in skin and body care, CBD has age-defying properties and offers some serious antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. This can be beneficial in treating skin concerns like inflammation, dryness and breakouts with skin conditions like acne or rosacea.
It is also reported to be effective at improving overall skin tone and texture and can also reduce sebum production, making it a great choice for oily and combination skin types. CBD is also recognised active ingredient and is rich in vitamins A, D and vitamin E.
While research on CBD’s benefits is fairly limited, it’s generally considered safe to use topically.
What options are available for CBD skincare?
CBD skincare is so popular at the moment, you can literally find it everywhere! From facial oil, eye balm, soap, serum, body lotion, cleanser, face masks, lip balm.. the list goes on!
With so many CBD products available, you need to know what to look out for. Ensure the ingredient list states ‘cannabidiol’ – anything else, including hemp seed oil or extract isn’t the same as CBD oil.
Given all the benefits of using it, it’s easy to see why the beauty industry’s obsession with CBD, isn’t slowing down, right!?
I’ve always said that embracing barefaced beauty always starts with good skincare, and this seems to be a great ingredient to start incorporating into your routine.
As I mentioned, there are no known side effects to this current skincare trend. Though it seems to me that the only risk is potentially wasting your hard-earned cash on something that may not work for you. Obviously this is the case with every other beauty trend, but will that stop me from trying it? Absolutely not!
Have you tried any CBD skincare? How did you get on with it?
