But first.

The question many of you might have..

Is Yucatan Safe to travel to?

In short, yes.

Yucatan has a lower crime rate than other parts of Mexico and has been said to be comparable to that of Sweden. Like with any travel destination though, it’s important to exercise caution and take standard safety precautions. It’s recommended to stay informed about the current situation, follow local laws and regulations, avoid isolated or unfamiliar areas and generally just be mindful of your belongings.

Additionally, it’s advisable to use reliable transportation, stay in well-reviewed accommodation and be aware of common scams or tourist-targeted crimes. By staying vigilant and taking necessary precautions, you can enjoy a safe and pleasant visit to Yucatan.

Adventure on the Yucatan coast

The Yucatan coast offers a perfect blend of adventure and flavours for even the most discerning travellers. A must-visit location is the Seahorse Beach Club, just a short drive from Telchac Port. Here, you can indulge in various activities like biking and kayaking, followed by relaxation in hammocks or a soothing massage.

Xcabachén Cenote, yucatan

Cenotes are one of the ‘coolest’ things about visiting the peninsula (pun intended).

In case you wondered, cenotes are limestone sinkholes that have been filled with groundwater. And there is seemingly an infinite number of these awesome natural wonders located around the Yucatan Peninsula.

For a unique adventure, embark on the Las Coloradas Safari Tour, which takes you through pink lagoons and the largest salt works in the country aboard an off-road vehicle. Don’t forget to capture the enchanting moments of this picturesque destination.

Food on the Yucatan coast

I have never met anybody who travelled to Mexico and didn’t love the food there (read my ultimate vegan guide to Mexico here). I was blown away by the vegetarian and vegan options available to me in Playa del Carmen as it was far better than I had anticipated.

For non-plant based folk, the true highlight of the Yucatan coast lies in the tantalising flavours awaiting you, including fried fish, aguachile, ceviche and octopus tostadas.

Yucatan tamale culinary event

I recently attended an event where we learnt how to make traditional tamales from the Yucatan region of Mexico. The technique is very unique, they are boiled instead of steamed like other tamales you may be familiar with and taste lovely.

Let’s just say I don’t think I’ll be winning any awards for my presentation skills any time soon though.

Where to stay in Yucatan – luxury hotels

Yucatán offers a range of luxurious, traditional and comfortable hotels that promise an unforgettable stay. If, like me, luxury and comfort are your thing, this state will give you an unforgettable stay.
