Dark circles are the bane of my existence! I’m thrilled to have discovered two simple ingredients to help reduce the appearance of those panda eyes. Better still, I can see immediate effect, and it costs just pennies to make! I only wish I’d discovered this sooner.. those ‘no make-up days’ would have been much more bearable!
The formation of dark circles can be hereditary, or due to lack of sleep and/or water, stress and an unhealthy diet. They make people look exhausted and older.
While this homemade remedy won’t banish dark circles from your life completely, it is a natural solution to reduce unsightly shadows under your eyes. It will also brighten the area and help smooth out any wrinkles (if you have any).
The two magic ingredients you need are; buttermilk and turmeric.
Buttermilk is a natural probiotic and is rich in lactic acid; this is found in many high-end anti-ageing beauty products as it’s gentle on the skin, exfoliating and improves the texture and hydration levels of the skin. (Former Egyptian queen, Cleopatra, was known to have bathed in sour milk to improve her skin. If it’s good enough for her..!) Due to it’s highly acidic and astringent nature, it helps tighten skin and treat any discolouration on your face; age spots, freckles and most importantly, dark under eye circles!
Turmeric is popular ingredient among Asian brides, who use it to brighten their complexion before their big day. It’s also widely used in the East as alternative medication for numerous health issues too.
The main active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, which gives it that deep yellowy-orange colour. It is an antioxidant and has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, helping to lighten and brighten skin complexions and prevent breakouts.
