Matte lipsticks, regardless of the brand can be very drying on the lips, and can make your lips appear rough and flaky. As there is no gloss or shine in the formula, matte lipsticks sit deeper in your lips, which then pronounces any dryness you may already have on your lips.
The key to pulling off this look is to invest a little time into preparing your lips pre-matte lipstick application.
Exfoliate your lips, I recommend the Lush bubblegum lip scrub, or simply use a wet, soft bristle toothbrush; buff your lips with the toothbrush in circular motions. Exfoliate either the night before or just before you start your make-up routine.
The next step is to moisturise, I recommend Vaseline. Be generous with this and leave it on for as long as possible to plump out the fine lines on your lips. Remove the excess with a tissue, once you’ve done the rest of your make-up and prior to lipstick application.
Lastly, you need to use a lip liner that is the same colour as your lipstick to line and fill in your lips. This will stop any feathering or bleeding beyond your lips and increase the longevity of the lipstick.
Now you are ready to apply your lipstick!
