As I’m sure you know, concealer is my number one desert island item and because I have so many imperfections to conceal, I’m very fussy when it comes to base products. I have a hard time finding the right shade for me as my under-eye area is so dark and so I always need to use a corrector first to neutralise the blue tones before applying my concealer.
The Bobbi Brown Corrector in Deep Peach is my holy grail. It’s the only corrector I have found that isn’t a bright orange shade, it’s muted but pigmented and is the perfect shade for my dark circles. The coverage is great, a little goes a long way and is very long lasting. The formula is thick and creamy so it does crease on me, however I do have a lot of fine lines and everything creases on me before I set it with powder. – You can read a full review of this here.
Concealer can either be your best friend or your worst enemy depending on whether you use the correct shade for your skin tone and my dark circles are high maintenance! I have however found two concealers that I love and more importantly, they both match to my skin tone perfectly.
The Nars Radiant Creamy concealer in Caramel is almost like a thick mousse formula giving a great medium to full coverage formula. The finish is almost satin; it’s not quite matte, and certainly not dewy, but simply the best of both worlds. Once blended it gives a beautiful natural finish that covers all imperfections and dark circles.
Not only is the colour spot on, but it’s undetectable on the skin, blends beautifully and gives the most natural diffused appearance. It doesn’t feel heavy or look cakey on the skin and photographs beautifully. I have however noticed that the formula starts to break down ever so slightly after 5-6 hours, but it isn’t too visible.
The Makeup Forever Ultra HD concealer is a new release and I wear this in the shade Y41 Honey. This thick creamy formula is housed in a squeezy tube but don’t be fooled by the deceptive packaging, it contains a lot more product than it appears to! A little bit of this really goes a long way, however I always manage to squeeze out too much which isn’t ideal.
The formula is highly concentrated and naturally corrects the appearance of wrinkles and shadows under the eye. It leaves a gorgeous luminous and dewy finish, and also photographs beautifully.
The price point of both of these concealers is very similar; the Nars is £22.50 and the Makeup Forever is £21.50. I know that the Nars radiant creamy concealer is a cult product, and rightly so, however I think I marginally prefer the MUFE one. I find that the orange undertone in this particular shade hides my dark circles a little bit better, and the formula helps fill my fine lines and also lasts a bit longer than the Nars.
Let’s be honest shall we? The perfect concealer has to cover, brighten and make us look ten years younger right?! I’m not convinced about the ‘ten years younger’ side of things, but I think the MUFE concealer certainly ticks all the other boxes!
Have you tried either of these? What’s your holy grail concealer?
