As you may know, I’m always nervous about letting people near my hair (and eyebrows) so I was slightly anxious when I was invited to visit ColourNation for a cut, style and a deep conditioning treatment.
I decided to face my fears an’ all that by accepting the invite, though I needn’t have worried, as I was made to feel very relaxed as soon as I met my stylist, Lucia. She was so friendly, understood me so well and was knowledgable about all things hair.
We had a little chat about my hair which assured me that she knew what she was doing with curly hair, and then completed a digital questionnaire about any likes, dislikes and concerns to determined what type of treatment was suitable for my unmanageable locks.
The salon itself; located on Winsley Street, just off Oxford street is tucked away like a hidden gem, and it is huge! They carry out a number of services including cuts, colours, extensions, straightening, digital perms and the much sought after Olaplex treatment.
They will soon be adding a beauty area and nail bar to the salon, and as well as this, they have an area sectioned off especially for celebrities and hijab wearing clients to make them feel comfortable and give them some privacy.
She started by washing my hair while I was seated in the comfiest, reclining massage chair! They usually annoy me as they can be quite uncomfortable, but this one was surprisingly pleasant – it almost felt like I had a real-life masseuse working on my back while I had my hair washed. It was fabulous!
The next step was the treatment and Lucia kindly added a few drops of the Wella SP Colour Save Infusion to this. This was applied to my hair and left for ten minutes, while I relaxed under the glam hair dryer!
It was then time to wash the treatment out (and have another massage), before getting the dreaded chop! As I love the length of my hair, I always ask for the smallest trim possible, which is exactly what I received. Lucia talked me through the cut, explaining that she would put some layers in towards the bottom of my hair, but not too high up, as there is a fine line between modern voluminous curls and 80’ curls!
She also feathered the front of my hair with a razor blade to frame my face – it’s barely noticeable, but I can see that it makes all the difference. I’ve never had this done before, as previous stylists cut my hair based on where my parting is, and I don’t have one – I wear it on either side, depending on where the curls are sitting better!
The last step was the blow dry; my favourite part! I asked for a big curls, and that is exactly what I got with the addition of Wella SP Luxe Oil to smooth my flyaways and help the blow dry last a bit longer.
It’s such a shame that it was a rainy and windy day as the minute I walked out of the salon, my frizz made an appearance. Despite the weather for the past couple of days, I managed to keep my blow dry in tact somewhat for three days by piling on the serum and straightening the roots – Now that is an achievement for my hair!
Lucia was with me throughout every step of my visit; from washing my hair all the way through to the blow dry at the end, which made the experience very personal. She even took some before and after photos for me to share with you.
I exited the salon with sleek, bouncy locks – two words I would never normally associate with my hair! I love my new hair and if you’re local to London, I’d highly recommend a service at ColourNation as they certainly know what they’re doing!
