As much as I love spending inordinate amounts of time playing with make-up, sometimes there simply isn’t enough time in a day and so I’m a big fan of anything that shortens my makeup application time.
The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water seemed like a fab solution. The formula is silicone, alcohol and oil free and claims to; prep the face for makeup application, hydrate skin for hours, revitalise and boost radiance.
The instructions say to use it before makeup, post-application to set the face or a few hours later to liven everything up. Having tried it all three ways, it works best for me pre-application as it gives my skin an extra boost of hydration. Caffeine is one of the main ingredients in it so this definitely helps to wake up the skin.
Beware of using it throughout the day to ‘liven’ up make-up as it can be quite all-encompassing. Any more than two spritz and you can sit around for about 10 minutes waiting for it to soak in!
For dewy, fresh skin and giving a bit of extra spread to thicker, full coverage foundations, this primer water definitely ticks the right box.
I haven’t noticed any difference in my complexion or in the smoothness of my pores, so in terms of it being used as an actual primer, I’m not convinced. I don’t think it necessarily helps the makeup to last longer. I’m sorry Photo Finish Primer Water, you’re good, you’re just not great.
Have you tried it? What are your thoughts on this?
