In keeping with our new years resolution to explore London this year, Jass and I found ourselves at The Attendant in the heart of London’s trendy urban neighbourhood, Fitzrovia.
The Attendant is literally an underground quirky little coffee bar which was formerly a Victorian gentleman’s toilet! Thankfully, it has been restored ..and sanitised! and is now one of the most unique coffee and food bars in Europe.
Let’s just say that the cups and saucers aren’t the only porcelain you’ll find in there!
Most of the original features remain intact on the walls; cracked tiles and hand dryers. The urinals have been converted into tiny individual tabletops and have the addition of green bar stools to match the colour of the original tiles.
Alongside the artisan Caravan coffee, they serve an extensive range of gourmet food all day, full of local and ethically sourced ingredients.
We arrived late in the afternoon, and there were so many tempting cakes on display. I had a cappuccino and eventually got ‘The Elvis’ brownie. It was huge, but so good with large chunks of banana, caramel and the odd peanut.
It may not be everybody’s cup of tea (or coffee!) but I think it’s a great little find!
PS – Can you spot our names on the wall?
