Jass & I went on a spontaneous spa weekend away in Swindon and I managed to spend a small fortune on cosmetics! How does that always happen to me!? That officially makes me a beauty nut right? I think so.
To be fair, the Swindon outlets have an entire shop dedicated to beauty products and they’re all discounted! Who could say no to that? The Cosmetics Company Store sells high end skincare and make-up, which I assume is old season stock but the bargains are incredible!
Some of the items I picked up were on sale so had an additional 50% off the outlet price which is just crazy. I was very restrained though and only bought things that I’ve wanted for a long time or that are new to me.
Ready for a little photo diary of my purchases?
Having never tried any of the MAC Mineralize eyeshadows, I picked up these three; Blue Flame, Bossa Blue and Smutty Green. I have only tried the green shadow and the pigmentation is insane! It’s a gorgeous shimmery deep green with tiny flecks of glitter, and it blends out into a warm brown shade. Perfect for an all over lid shade that looks like you’ve put a lot more effort in than you really have!
MAC Pro Longwear shadow in Hot Paprika. This was a bargain at only £4.50, and is unlike any other shade I own. It’s a coral-y orange shade that I wore on halloween – Perfect!
I don’t get hype about new collections at MAC (sorry!), people spend weeks waiting for the release date to be announced, it comes out earlier than planned and then everyone is disappointed. It happens every time! I’ve also never read any outstanding reviews other than those about the packaging. Side note – I salute those that stand in line for hours or refresh the website all morning to make their purchases before it’s all out of stock. For ever. That’s real dedication.
As pretty as the packaging for the Toledo collection is, I love the shade of this ombre blush in Kindergarten Red. It isn’t red, it’s a mauve – coral – peach shade and I’m excited to use it.
MAC Paintpot in Antique Diamond.
Smashbox Jet Set eye liner in dark brown.
I was in two minds about buying this Smashbox Halo Longwear blush in blissful as I loved the shade but the packaging is, erm.. ‘interesting’. It’s too chunky in my opinion and I haven’t figured out why you need to twist the top part to get the product out, but you always end up with more than you need. The packaging gets a thumbs down from me, however the blush is insanely pigmented, a little goes a long way! It’s also my perfect mauve shade, which is pretty much the only shade of blush I wear!
I bought the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream, which came in a set with the serum and a mascara. I haven’t tried either of these as I’ve got a few eye creams stashed away that need testing out!
Believe it or not, I’ve never tried any of the Estée Lauder cosmetics range, so I picked up 2 of paint pots in 06 Cosmic and 09 Neon Fuchsia. The fuchsia definitely looks purple to me, and there weren’t any testers available so I’ll be interested to see what they look like and how they compare to the MAC paint pots.
The Origins range had 25% off and as I’ve wanted to try the GinZing range for a while, a purchase had to be made! I haven’t tried the moisturiser or eye cream yet, but I’m in love with the Drink Up face mask, especially at this time of year. I caved and turned the heating on last week, and as much as I love it, my skin despises it! It’s been so dry and dehydrated lately and I can see this mask being my saviour throughout the winter.
The star of the show was the Smashbox Double Exposure Palette. I’ve had my eye on this since I bought the Full Exposure palette and voted it as my favourite here. I had this on my Christmas list as I couldn’t justify spending £40 on ‘another’ palette but I bagged this one for just £27!
The colours are highly pigmented and blend effortlessly. I’ve been rocking the matte plumy brown shade on the bottom row for the past couple of days until I pluck up the courage to try the silver. Not sure I’ll ever be a fan of that one to be honest!
So as you can see, I went a bit wild in The Cosmetics Company, I almost felt like I was in Sephora. –Poor Jass, he just can’t catch a break!
