While I was in Thailand, I was surprised at how little makeup I wore. I mean, I didn’t even know where my makeup bag was for a few days at a time! – To put it into context, we were travelling around the county with two large suitcases, so I had no idea where I’d packed it.
I’m ‘that person’ that always wears makeup on holiday, regardless of the heat and humidity as I don’t wear it every day at home. In all fairness, temperatures were between 35 and 40 degrees and there was 80% humidity, which meant that the minute I left my air-conditioned room, everything slid off my face in an instant!
I did however want to look a bit more human on my vlogs and after some trial and error, I discovered a few products that were completely sweat proof.. something I have never had to think about in the past.
Brows make a huge impact on how we look as they really frame the face, and even when I don’t wear any other makeup, I like to fill in my brows. This instantly makes me look like I’ve put more effort in than I really have. This stuff really is waterproof, sweatproof and smudgeproof.
I applied it first thing in the morning, left it on when I went swimming, both in the pool and at the beach, and it didn’t budge all day. It takes a really good micellar water or eye make-up remover to remove it prior to cleansing your face, I’d highly recommend it. Just use a light hand to apply the product.
Admittedly, I didn’t take much notice of how well the corrector worked in the heat. I just knew that my dark circles needed to be hidden, and this is the only product I have found that works perfectly. I can tell you however, that it stayed in place for most of the day, providing a great base for my concealer.
I don’t find this concealer to be particularly long lasting, after about five or six hours the formula starts to break down ever so slightly. The reason I love it is because it’s the perfect shade match to my dark circles, and has great coverage. I layered the MAC pro long wear concealer over the top and this gave me amazing coverage that was also long lasting.
I have this in the shade NC42 which is an exact match for my skin tone, but unfortunately not for my dark circles. In case you’re new here, I have an ongoing struggle with dark circles and concealer, and aside from the Nars concealer in Caramel, I haven’t yet found my perfect shade anywhere else.
This concealer really surprised me as I only wear it occasionally, over the top of my regular corrector and concealer under my eyes, and to cover redness which is a rarity. But I discovered that it really is full coverage, waterproof and long lasting. It’s particularly good on the bridge of my nose too as there wasn’t much transfer onto my sunglasses which is fab! I would highly recommend this concealer if you wear glasses.
Again, I applied this early in the morning and while I didn’t go swimming with it on, I found that most of it would still be on towards the evening which is very impressive considering my sweaty state!
I won’t bore you with an essay about how much I love this stuff (You can read that here if you’re in the market for a new mascara), but I really am obsessed. Aside from holding a curl better than any other and lengthening my lashes, the addition of this mascara just pulled the whole look together. It just ‘opened up my eyes’ and lasted very well in the heat and in the pool.
I think I have finally found my perfect minimal holiday makeup! The combination of these five products (and lipstick) made me feel like I have makeup on and cover my imperfections without me using multiple products.
Do you have a go-to (sweatproof) holiday look?
