DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly Review

Jass has been working in Manchester for the past few months, so recently, I decided to tag along with him. He has to book his hotels through work a few weeks in advance, so I was excited to hear that he’d booked the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly for this week!

As a Hilton Honors member, he tends to book with them when possible, as he has accumulated enough rewards points to get room upgrades, lounge access where available and free drinks vouchers at the bar. The last Doubletree by Hilton I stayed at is actually one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in, so my expectations were high..

DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly review

On arrival to the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly, we were pleased to be able to check-in early to an upgraded room with a corner window! In true Doubletree style, we were presented with warm cookies on arrival too – now we all know how I feel about cookies.. *inserts heart-eyed emoji* – That really made my day!

I’m not ashamed to admit that the first thing I did was have a nap! I mean, the bed just looked too inviting, especially considering I’d been up since 5am that morning. The bed was comfortable, with a firm mattress, but the pillows could have been better.

Location wise, it doesn’t get much better than this. We could almost see the hotel across the road as we exited Manchester Piccadilly station.

The gay quarter is a 5 minute walk away and the Northern Quarter and Ancoats; home to some great hipster coffee shops and restaurants is only a 10-15 minute walk away too.

The room itself was small, as you might expect from a city centre location. Opening two small suitcases may have been a struggle, had it not been for the additional space by the corner window.

However, it was cosy, clean and well equipped with a fridge, kettle, nespresso machine, robes and slippers!

The bathroom was a decent size, spotless with lighting bright enough to do your makeup in. The refillable hand wash and shower gel bottle, attached to the wall, were particularly impressive.

I’d like to assume these are refillable, so this is a great way to minimise the use of single use plastic. I also think using hand wash is much nicer than a drying bar of soap.

In true Hilton Doubletree style, the bathroom was fully equipped with Crabtree & Evelyn Verbena and Lavender toiletries; including the hand wash and shower gel.

They also provide mini mouthwashes, along with the usual shower cap, cotton wool pads and buds which are such a great, useful touch!

The natural light, albeit grey (in true Manchester style), made for the perfect environment to work in, read, apply makeup properly etc. Pretty much do all the things that are often difficult to do in poorly lit hotel rooms!

Light sleepers may find the noise of the trams going past during the night to be annoying. While it was certainly noticeable, it didn’t prevent us having a good nights’ sleep!

Breakfast at the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly

I must admit, breakfast wasn’t great. It was fine, but service was extremely slow for the omelette station and the vegan/vegetarian items weren’t labelled properly.

It took three waiters to find out whether certain items contained dairy, which was a bit of a faff! The chopped fruit tasted off to me on all three mornings I had breakfast there. However, when I asked if they were able to make me porridge with soya milk, they were more than happy to do so.

Would I stay here again? Yes!
