The Best Vegan And Vegetarian Restaurants in Vilnius, Lithuania
To my surprise, the vegan restaurant scene in Vilnius is booming, with numerous eateries in the Old Town offering meat-free options. So when it comes to the best restaurants in Vilnius, you really are spoilt for choice.
While the city is packed full of restaurants in Vilnius Old Town serving up a wide range of cuisines from around the world, the vast majority of eateries tend to lean towards the standard Eastern European fare of stodgy dumplings, meat and dairy-laden potatoes – all as far from vegan and vegetarian friendly as you can get.
However, I like to try and seek out veganised dishes of local cuisine on my travels around the world and traditional Lithuanian cuisine was no exception – I found some real gems.

Restaurants in Vilnius for vegans and vegetarians
If you are looking for some of the best meat-free dining options in Vilnius, here are a few of my favourite vegan and vegetarian spots in the city, starting off in my order of preference.
RoseHip Vegan Bistro
I have to start with my ultimate favourite vegan restaurants in Vilinus – this was my first foodie stop and it truly set the bar high for the remainder of the trip.
While they unfortunately don’t offer traditional Lithuanian cuisine aside from cold beetroot soup that I was skeptical about. What they do serve is phenomenal.
We ordered; bao with bbq soy nuggets which was lovely and not too barbeque-y for my tastebuds. The vegan calamari rings were the star of the starters menu – apparently better than the real deal – as stated by my carnivore husband. I have to say I’m not always a fan of vegan fish, but this was truly the best ‘calalmari’ I have ever eaten, and the chilli lime mayo dip was absolute zingy perfection.
We also ordered the Asian salad and teriyaki tempeh Buddha bowl mains to share – honestly, I have zero complaints. Excellent food, wonderful service with friendly staff, a beautiful outdoor patio to sit and and people watch with either an oat flat white or local beer depending on which way you are inclined.
Vegan or otherwise, this is one not to miss if you are in Vilnius.

Bernelių Užeiga
I always make a point to try and find a vegan or vegetarian version of traditional dishes when I travel, so I can try local flavours at the very least. Bernelių Užeiga is one of a few traditional Lithuanian restaurants in the Old Town with a variety of national dishes on offer – their vegetarian options appealed to me the most.
They do one vegetarian dish; the grated potato pancake tower served with a chanterelle mushroom sauce – though there were other options such as sour cream too. This was delicious, and the sauce really was the star of the show. Velvety, rich and cheesy with chunks of beautiful mushrooms – it really packed the flavour.
The other offering is a vegan dish; the potato dumplings stuffed with mushrooms and topped with veg. Personally, this one fell a bit flat for me as it was incredibly dry and lacked flavour.
Jass ordered mixed dumplings with pork mince, curd (soft cheese) and mushrooms and he loved them. I believe these dumplings are traditionally served with sour cream, and the lack of this made the vegan version quite dry.
If you’re looking for restaurants in Vilnius that do a great vegetarian offering of traditional Lithuanian cuisine, look no further than Berneliu Uzeiga. Alternatively, you can take a food tour in the city to experience more Lithuanian flavours.

Pirmas Blynas
Pirmas Blynas is a social enterprise located in St. Virgin Maria’s Church. They only employ adults with learning difficulties and other disabilities and serve a range of pancakes, waffles and coffee as well as hosting educational talks on down’s syndrome.
We ordered two pancakes to share, a savoury and sweet one; burrata, pesto and cherry tomato pancake (vegetarian) and a banana and chocolate pancake with strawberries and blueberries. This one was vegan.
The service here was excellent and the portions were huge. If I am being really critical, I found the savoury pancake too rich for my liking, but burrata – as delicious as it is, does have a funny way of doing that! The sweet one wasn’t too sweet which was perfection in my opinion.

RoseHip Vegan Kebabs
This is not to be confused with the other RoseHip; they have two restaurants in Vilnius and the bistro is most definitely my favourite.
We ordered the vegan crispy shrimp to start, which was nice but I wasn’t wowed by it. If you’re going for a kebab wrap, I wouldn’t advise ordering starters or sides. We weren’t forewarned and the portion sizes were huge – as evidenced in the photo below.
The ‘not chicken kebab’ was good but it lacked some flavour. I asked for some hot sauce, but all they had was sriracha which is pretty much just garlicky ketchup in my eyes. I settled on some jalapeños instead which hit the spot nicely. The ‘spicy with parmesan kebab wrap’ was far superior and though I’m not a vegan cheese lover, the cashew parmesan was really tasty.

Paupio Turgus
Paupio Turgus is an urban food hall located just outside of the Old Town – around a 20 minute walk through Pilies Street. A bit of a hidden gem four tourists, if you ask me.
They offer a variety of cuisines in a beautiful indoor and outdoor setting, serving everything from seafood, paella, bao buns, cheeseburgers and more.
This is a trendy, hipster spot to have drinks, meals and even work from. Far less touristy than any other place we visited, instead this food hall was full of locals, I assume from nearby offices. It is the perfect place to try small meals from various spots – which is exactly what we did.
We shared:
- Tofu and Korean aubergine bao from Yakitori boutique.
- Tofu shirashi; a rice bowl with enoki mushrooms, crispy battered asparagus, edamame, silken tofu, sprouts and fried lotus root, from Wasabi Sushi. This was the star of the show for me – simply delicious!
- Vegetarian Komodo burger with camembert & raspberry, with a side of Belgian fries from Meatbusters. While this looked dreamy when cut in half with all the cheese oozing out, it was too sweet for my liking. I could never have eaten the entire thing – I struggled with my half too!
The tofu shirashi bowl was top tier for me, with the burger being at the bottom of the list. I’m not usually a burger fan but was intrigued by the camembert and raspberry – it was too decadent and sweet for me.

Kalimera
Kalimera was a late night discovery. We hadn’t intended to have dinner as we’d had a big lunch earlier but found ourselves a bit peckish at gone 9pm.
I went for the Greek salad and a side of fries to share. Honestly, so simple but oh so good. I never know why Greek salad tastes a thousand times better in a restaurant than at home.
I reckon it has something to do with the copious amounts of good quality olive oil – a step I certainly skip at home.

Agnifood
Agnifood was my least favourite vegetarian restaurant in Vilnius. The interior design is stunning; giving me Bali vibes, but certainly not Bali flavours or prices.
To start, we ordered the hummus bowl: with fried tofu (which I am convinced was sweet potato), tomatoes, olives, pickles, salad and tortilla chips.
The fried and steamed dumplings were a main course, stuffed with pea protein. Now personally I am not a fan of pea protein as I find it a bit gritty in texture – and this was exactly that.
The entire meal was quite bland and pretty much what I regularly make for lunch at home, so I wasn’t wowed by it. The service here wasn’t the best either and there is a yoga studio attached to the restaurant downstairs; Mai ram yoga house. I believe this is where their highly rated reviews come from, over the restaurant itself, as the yoga studio seemed to be very popular.
I love me an impromptu yoga class and had I have been prepared, I would have booked a class.

Vieta
Vieta is one of the top rated vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Vilnius serving simple food, with a cosy atmosphere. Located right next to the university, making it popular with local students.
Sadly, we didn’t get to visit as they have very limited opening hours are are closed at weekends. Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays are the best days to visit.
Location: Šv. Ignoto g. 12-1, Vilnius, 01144 Vilniaus m. sav.
The Urban Garden
The Urban Garden is another cafe we didn’t get to visit, as they mainly serve breakfast and lunch. The breakfasts here look incredible and the menu offers both vegan and vegetarian dishes. If you don’t have breakfast included as part of your hotel stay, I would definitely check this spot out.

Unique bars in Vilnius
Alaus Biblioteka | Beer Library
Alaus Biblioteka is a beer library located in the old town, with a secret, but not so secret hidden door inside a bookcase. You will find a cute little snug nestled behind it.
The ambience in here is great, it really feels like you are drinking in a cosy library. They have a great selection of beers on offer, though I’m not really a beer drinker, I sampled a lovely local one called Citra Smash IPA.
You can even purchase a flight of 5 beers to sample. I highly recommend visiting this a place for the ambience alone, it’s a lovely little haven with friendly service.
Location: Trakų g. 4, Vilnius, 01132 Vilniaus m. sav.
Viskio Baras | King & Mouse – Whisky Bar & Shop
King & Mouse whisky bar has a collection of 300 types of whisky and feels like the quintessential Vilnius Old Town experience. It is a lovely place to enjoy a quality single malt or blend from all over the world.
Ask the bartender for suggestions and they will find something for your taste.
I am far from a whiskey connoisseur, preferring bourbon over scotch, nothing too intense or smokey. This is exactly what I asked for, and he delivered. While they also serve beer, wine and limited soft drinks, I was not allowed to dilute my whisky with coke zero (and I am not someone that can handle my alcohol, ha!) so you can imagine that one shot was more than enough to finish me off for the night.
Traku street appears to be the street of alcohol connoisseurs, as the Beer Library (Alaus Biblioteka) is right next door to this place too.
If you are a whisky fan, this place needs to be on your list.

Coffee spots in Vilnius
Eskedar coffee
I visited Eskedar coffee every day during my time in Vilnius, and they never failed to disappoint with my ‘oat flat white’ order.
There are two branches, but make sure you go to the one that has a bookshop attached to it, on Pilies Street (linked below). The outdoor seating area is a great spot for people-watching in the Old Town, but most importantly, the coffee they serve is excellent.
Location: Pilies g. 22, Vilnius, 01124 Vilniaus m. sav.
Grand Hotel Vilnius, Curio Collection by Hilton
Slightly boujie location to grab a coffee, but this hotel is really nice to sit in with either a book or laptop. The food menu wasn’t to my liking, but my very specific order of a ‘decaf iced americano with oat milk’ was lovely – and better still, it was served with a cute selection of delicious traditional cookies.
